Gender Inequality In The Workplace

Gender inequality is one of the problems that affect us most nowadays. There are many ways in which it manifests. Although we live in an age of freedom of speech, sexuality and supposedly, also of equality, the sad truth is that there are many problems, which we should have already solve that we continue to face on a day to day basis.

For example, in the workplace, men are more likely to get highly placed executive and managerial positions than women. Also, women tend to make a fraction less than men, for the exact same work. Why? Because they're women. Because they need to split their focus in five to ten different ways to get things done at work and at home done. On the other hand, men will only have to split their focus into three, to solve their problems and do what they have to do at work. After work, men are off the clock for the rest of the day, their female counterparts, well, they're just getting ready to start their home shift.

Professional growth

Men in general tend to get promoted more and higher than females. Perhaps, it is due to the fact that as they do not take care of the house and children in general, they do not require to sit their focus in as many ways as women do, getting better results sometimes in less time.


Money-wise, it is not uncommon even in the media, to hear that women often make much less than their male counterparts. Recently, in an email that was hacked, the fact that an oscar winner like Jennifer Lawrence made less money than her less recognized fellow male castmate. In politics, it is also frequent to see this phenomenon occur.

The hypocrisy

But, isn't it a bit hypocritical that women are expected to achieve so much and then, when they do, not appreciate, recognize and prize their efforts? Well, at the risk of sounding like a feminazi, yes, it is. Men are only expected to go to work and provide for the household. As long as that function is accomplished, they are given a free pass on everything else and whichever other way they wish to manage their lives, but should a woman do that, she would be harshly judged by society. Even the men that support women openly are often discouraged from doing so and / or called names.

Next time you see a lady struggling with everything she has to do, don't sneer or jeer, think of your mother, sister or your wife/ girlfriend, they all go through the same. Offer to help and do things without being told to or asked to. It will make a world of a difference.
